When you only have a few days to bring an entire world to life, every decision counts. For Where The Shadows Wait, we wanted more than just a location, we needed full creative control over how the story unfolded in its environment. That meant one thing: building our own set.
The Vision
The world of Where The Shadows Wait is tense, eerie, and deeply layered. Shooting on location would have meant compromises we weren’t willing to make, so we created a controlled environment where every corner could serve the story. From the floor plan to the textures on the walls, the build was about immersing the audience in this world.
The Process
Three days of nonstop construction. Lighting design. Set dressing. Camera testing. It all came together in a blur and then, just like that, the set was alive with two days of production. What you’re seeing in the timelapse above is the compressed story of that journey: a warehouse becoming a living, breathing world.
The Payoff
This wasn’t just about building a set. It was about showing what’s possible when indie filmmakers push past limitations and create spaces that elevate their storytelling. This build was proof of concept for us and a glimpse of the level of execution Dark Monarch Films brings to every project.
